    • The invention comprises pyridazones of the formula wherein R1 represents a phenyl or cyclohexyl radical, optionally substituted by a methyl group or halogen atom, and R2 represents a methyl, ethyl or acetyl radical. The compounds are made by reacting an alcoholate with a 1 - substituted - 4,5 - dibromopyridazone - (6) or by reacting an alkyl or acetyl halide with a 1 - substituted - 4 - hydroxy - 5 - bromopyridazone - (6). The compounds are used as herbicides (see Division A5). Specified compounds are 1 - cyclohexyl - 4 - methoxy - , 1 - phenyl - 4 - methoxy -, 1 - phenyl - 4 - ethoxy -, 1 - phenyl - 4 - acetoxy -, and 1 - p - fluoro - phenyl - 4 - methoxy - 5 - bromopyridazones.ALSO:Compounds of the formula wherein R1 represents a phenyl or cyclohexyl radical, optionally substituted by a methyl group or halogen atom, and R2 represents a methyl, ethyl or acetyl group, are used as herbicides, either alone or in admixture with a liquid or solid carrier. The herbicidal compositions may also include wetting agents, emulsifiers, glue, alginates or resins and may be used in conjunction with other active substances such as fertilisers. Examples relate to the use of 1 - phenyl - 4 - methoxy - 5 - bromopyridazone - (6) in aqueous dispersion. The herbicides may be applied to the plants or to the soil in which they grow.

The presence of the tertiary amine in the reaction is optional. The products are stated to act as herbicides against dicotyledons and may be also used as stabilizers in polyvinyl chloride.

    • The invention relates to an amide or salt thereof or an imide of a dicarboxylic acid, e.g. oxalic, succinic, maleic, dichloromaleic or phthalic and a compound of the general formula where R1 is a phenyl or cyclohexyl radical and R2 is chlorine or bromine. In an example reaction of 1-phenyl-4-amino-5-hydroxypyridazone-(6) with dichloromaleic acid gives the dichloromaleimide of 1-phenyl-4-amino-5-hydroxypyridazone-(6) which is reacted with phosphorus and hydrochloride, thionyl chloride or phosgene to produce 1-phenyl-6-dichloromaleimido-5-chloropyridazone which on hydrolysis yields 1-phenyl-4-dichloromaleamido-5-chloropyridazone-(6). In another example by reacting 1 - phenyl - 4 - amino - 5 - chloropyridazone with oxalylchloride there is produced N - [4 - (1 - phenol - 5 - chloropyridazone - 6)-yl]-ozamic acid.ALSO:Plant growth regulants contain as active ingredients an amide or salt thereof or an imide of a dicarboxylic acid and 1-phenyl-4-amino-5-chloropyridazone-(6); 1-phenyl-4-amino-5-bromopyridazone - (6), 1-cyclohexyl-4-amino-5-chloropyridazone-(6) or 1-cyclohexyl-4-amino-5-bromopyridazone-(6) and a solid or liquid carrier material. Specified active ingredients are 1-phenyl-4-amino-5-chloropyridazone-(6)-oxalamide, 1-phenyl-4-amino-5-chloropyridazone-(6) -oxalamide sodium salt.
